New year's resolution - time to stop smoking?

Why do people smoke?

Most people smoke because they enjoy it. Even if they do not particularly like the taste and smell, they have come to associate smoking with a particular good feeling – commonly one of relaxation, or just a bit of “me time”. Over time, the subconscious mind comes to believe that the only way the pleasant feeling can be achieved is via a cigarette.

Oddly enough, the only drug in a cigarette is the insecticidal alkaloid nicotine, which actually has a slightly stimulant effect. So how can this stimulant drug apparently cause relaxation in so many people? The truth is that it does not. Something else is going on here. The mind is playing tricks on itself! This is where hypnotherapy can help. We need to re-program the mind and the thinking process around tobacco.

A better way to study - for iPhone owners

My coaching colleague and NLP guru Cormac Moore, founder of HEADCASE, has developed a wonderful new iPhone app that hacks into your brain and helps you study more effectively. As Cormac puts it,
"Where would you rather be: on a sunny exotic beach with your best friends, or sitting in a sweaty exam hall struggling to remember some bullshit theory?"
If the answer is the beach, check out the HEADCASE website or download the app from the app store.

Fast Phobia Cure

Sometimes change can be achieved incredibly quickly. Take phobias for example. Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) can be used to effectively and permanently remove many types of phobia in a single session. Whether it's snakes, planes (or snakes on planes!), spiders, high places or even the mother-in-law, the chances are that NLP can change the way you react to that old fear stimulus so that you literally cannot think of it in the same way again.

More information can be found here. For general information about hypnotherapy and NLP please look at my website www.riversidehypnotherapy.com or contact me via this link.

Choose your therapist carefully!

Hypnosis should become a standard technique on the NHS to treat a range of conditions according to a new report produced in the UK.

The hypnosis and psychosomatic medicine section of the Royal Society of Medicine says the technique can be used to relieve pain and treat stress related conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

The press reports highlight both the positive and negative viewpoints of hypnotherapy in the medical profession.....

  • "Independent" Report.. click here
  • BBC TV report.. click here

Some doctors are concerned that lack of regulation in the hypnotherapy profession means that standards of competency vary greatly. So be sure to check out the background and training of your therapist before you start your course of treatment. Anyone planning on undertaking analytical therapy or anything involving childhood regression should seek reassurance that their choice of therapist is trained in this type of work. He or she should offer a free introductory consultation in which the process is clearly explained and any questions are answered. Such a meeting should be free of any obligation to undergo therapy, and gives the potential client an opportunity to decide whether they feel comfortable with that particular therapist.

If you want to know more about my own background or qualifications, please feel free to contact me or to check out my web site.

The fast phobia cure

Simple phobias are the only type of anxiety disorder for which analytical therapy is not usually necessary. There is not really any need, in most cases, to look for a "root cause" of the anxiety, as the anxiety is only present when the phobic trigger is present. Such phobias are treated with a combination of suggestion and neuro-linguistic programming techniques. Effectively, the subconscious mind is re-programmed to experience the previously terrifying subject in a new and different way.

Usually one or two sessions are sufficient.

Hypnotherapy and the treatment of depression

Depression seems to be the curse of modern "civilised" living, particularly in the current economic climate. The good news is that you do not have to endure it, or spend the rest of your days taking anti-depressant medication.  Hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) combine well to treat depression effectively.

NLP - Neuro-linguistic programmimg

NLP is the study of what and how we think, and what and how we communicate. The art of being in control of one's feelings is crucial to everyone.

Imagine how that will benefit you; at work, at home, at college, in your relationship. Imagine now your life being transformed, being more satisfying, more rewarding, and more fulfilling. Imagine your goals being achieved, easily and quickly, and all from the power of your own mind.

Imagine the ways you will benefit from NLP Life and/or Business Coaching......

National no-smoking day - Wednesday 9th March 2011

Ash Wednesday, 9th March 2011, is national no-smoking day, so there is an added incentive to give up the habit for good. Stopping smoking using NLP and hypnosis is a lot easier than you may think. My aim is to preserve the good feeling you get from a cigarette - you wouldn't do it unless there was something enjoyable about it - but getting that good feeling without needing a cigarette to get it!

Patches and nicotine chewing gum don't do that. Why replace a smoking habit with an equally expensive chewing gum habit? Why not just quit, easily and quickly, and still feel good?

Why do diets not work?

Put simply, the decision to diet is a logical one; and it is a conscious decision made by the logical, conscious part of the mind. Unfortunately, the desire to eat unnecessarily is usually an emotional one, arising from the subconscious part of the mind! Hypnosis is the only proven method of accessing the subconscious and changing what are often deep rooted behaviours . The process helps generate true motivation for a better attitude towards food. This is the key that unlocks the door to weight management - putting you in control of food, rather than the food being in control of you.
